Foam mattresses help back pain. If you are thinking about buying a memory foam mattress, then you are probably getting poor or broken sleep. If you can’t seem to get comfortable, or if you wake with aches in your neck, shoulders and lower back, then it’s likely that you would benefit from an investment in a high-quality foam mattress.

Try foam mattresses for up to 90 days before you buy. Before you buy a mattress, it’s worth considering an in-home trial for your foam mattress (to make sure you’ve got the right firmness, and that the mattress doesn’t sleep too hot).

We love our foam mattress! My wife and I have been sleeping on a Tempur-pedic foam mattress since 2005. When I bought mine, we got interest-free financing, and a 35% discount. They delivered for free (within 5 days) and they included two free memory pillows and free linens too – so they don’t have to work out overly expensive. (Oh – we got a 20 year foam mattress warranty, too).

Buy from the best foam mattress manufacturers. These are the most popular brands on the market in the US in 2009.

  1. Tempur-Pedic
  2. Sleep Innovation
  3. Sealy Memory Foam
  4. Serta Memory Foam
  5. Spa Sensation
  6. Cambridge Memory Foam
  7. Carpenter (Isotonic)
  8. Spring Air Memory Foam
  9. Simmons Memory Foam
  10. Sleep Innovation Tempsoma

Are memory foam mattresses worth the extra money? Clearly, they are not cheap, with the cheapest foam mattresses retailing for $700 right up to $2,500 for a top of the range Tempurpedic split cal-king luxury foam mattress. In my mind, the place where you spend 50% of your life is worth a little extra – and at less than $0.50 a night – over the life of the mattress they work out real cheap!

Why are memory foam mattresses more expensive? Remember, the tempurpedic foam mattresses are the most expensive, as they are made from ‘memory foam’ which the common name for visco-elastic polyurethane foam (developed by NASA for their astronauts). They are more expensive because the have more bubbles (which allow for the mattress to deform, whilst maintaining support) and they sleep hot. And they are very heavy!
